March Update
March was filled with playoff games! Five of our teams made it to the semi-finals, and two of our teams were crowned BHL Champions! Congrats to our 2016s and U14s BHL Champs!!
2016: Championship weekend started off with a semifinal game against the Boston Jr Bruins. The two teams have had some very competitive and equally matched tilts this season and this game didn’t disappoint. The Jr Rangers went down 1-0 early and then quickly thereafter went down 2-0. But the boys kept their heads high and were able to tie the game up 2-2 in the third period, forcing the game into sudden death overtime. The Rangers came out at the start of OT with a renewed sense of competition and kept the Jr Bruins on their heels! The boys banded together and were able to bury a game ending puck deep into the net, paving the way for the 2016 BJR’s to play the 5th seeded Seacoast Seahawks for the Championship!
Championship puck drop as slated for 12:20 pm and went off right on time! Despite the regular season games against the Seahawks being closely matched and right down to the last minute, the boys came out strong. Making it obvious very quickly that they were not planning on going back to the Breakaway without a Banner to show for their hard work and determination all season! From getting dressed before the game, to warmups, and right to puck drop you could feel the energy buzzing all around the locker room and bench! The offense put pressure on the Seahawks defense and goalie right away. Keeping them guessing with sharp passes, quick shots, and great heads up plays to grab the rebounds and put points on the board! At the other end of the ice, it seemed like every move that the Seahawks tried to put together, the defense had an abrupt answer for and dished the puck to the offense. Jacob “Juicebox” Romano stayed steadfast and focused guarding the BJR goal. Romano stood on his head to keep the Seahawks to 0 points, locking the Jr Rangers into their first Championship appearance/performance/win! The TEAM stood together along the blue line and commended the Seahawks on a great season. Then as a group of ONE celebrated their impressive accomplishment together! Hats, gloves, sticks and helmets were scattered across the ice as the entire team piled on top of their goalie in excitement! Congratulations to the boys, coaches and parents. It was a great first season for the 2016 team and has paved the way for more fun and teamwork next season!!
2015: The Rangers handed it to Winter Club after a slow first period. The 2015’s never gave up and put lots of goals on the board in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Scoring was led by Ben Placzek (2) with other goals by Anthony Mucci, Hudson Morin, Troy Sarafian, Noah Laine, and Sean Carney. Oliver Belmonte put on an impressive performance between the pipes, keeping Winter Club at bay.
The final game of the 2015 season truly exemplified who this team is. They fought to the very last second, even when the results didn’t turn out in their favor. #RollRangers
2014: After an impressive 4-0 first-round win to kick off this year’s playoffs, the 2014 Jr. Rangers season came to an end after a close battle versus the #1 seed Casco Bay Mariners. With Casco carrying a 3-0 lead into the 3rd period, Max Jaynes put the Rangers on the board with a great individual effort to break through the Mariners defenders and give the Rangers some momentum as they pulled within two. Unfortunately, the Casco goaltender was in the zone and managed to turn away a number of great scoring chances down the stretch. Casco extended their lead late in the 3rd with a goal from a scramble in front, and then popped an empty netter to cap off the 5-1 win. Garvey and Bevilacqua had another strong performance in net against the high powered Casco offense, keeping the game much closer than the 5-1 score suggests. They were truly the backbone of this team throughout the entire season. Defenders Daddario, Thorne, Peach, Geary, Provanzano, DerAnanian, and Martel all had great seasons on D and minimized the number of high scoring chances that our goaltenders faced. Offensive efforts this season from Jaynes, Reardon, Tremblay, Whitmore, Beaudoin, Nicoloro, Ciulla, Wooley, Whitmore, and Bibo gave the Rangers a chance to win just about any game. As the offense seemed to come alive whenever it was needed most in a number of close 1 or 2 goal games throughout the year. Special thanks go out to the parents, coaches, and players for a successful and exciting season.
2013: The team came to play – Gianni Giasullo (assisted by Logan Leo) opened the scoring four minutes in the first period. The game was tied 1-1 going into the second period, then Luis Sena scored twice for a 3-1 lead. Later in the period, the Warriors on a 5 on 3 powerplay scored to cut the lead to one. The Rangers led 3-2 going into the third period, then 4 minutes in found themselves shorthanded and gave up the tying goal. Again with just under 4 minutes left in the game, the BJRs found themselves killing off their ninth penalty and gave up the game-winning goal. It was a tough loss, the team will regroup and come back stronger next year.
2012: It was not the way we wanted the season to end, but it was a hard-fought effort until the last whistle. Amazing year with improvement from each player and a lot of great memories!
2011: Sadly, after a very strong regular season, the 2011 team fell in their play-off run to repeat. The team had an outstanding and fun year.
U14: During the semi-final game the boys dug deep after being down 3-1, came back to tie it before heading into 3 on 3 overtime. Wyatt Batchelor scored on a fantastic goal to secure the win!
Another tight match-up against a team with many high school players. Again coming back to tie it in the third period with a goal from Chris Ronan from a fantastic pass from Parker Welch. Heading into another 3 x3, the team felt confident after practicing it for the past couple weeks. Ultimately, another strong play from Chris Ronan and a pass to Richie Caraviello who buried a highlighted goal for an exciting win. None of this would be possible without the incredible netminding performance from Landon Shaughnessy. It’s hard to find words to describe anything other than awesome! On behalf of the entire Rangers staff, we wanted to thank all the players and families for a fantastic season.
Roll Rangers!
